Triticale Whiskey

90 Proof

B21 Reserve Collection

Spirit Description

Our Triticale Whiskey highlights a rare grain with remarkable character. A natural hybrid of rye and wheat, triticale unites rye’s spice and structure with wheat’s smooth sweetness. Distilled in a small batch and aged in #4 charred oak, it reveals warm notes of toasted grain, honeyed oak, and baking spice, unfolding into caramel, vanilla, and a gentle peppery finish.

Information & History

Interesting Note

Triticale is a hybrid grain born from the cross of rye and wheat, first developed by European scientists in the late 19th century. The goal was to combine the resilience and bold, spicy character of rye with the softness and high yield of wheat. While it found success in agriculture, it remains a rarity in whiskey production—used by only a handful of distilleries.

In distilling, triticale transforms the sharp, peppery edge of a traditional rye into something smoother and more nuanced. The wheat genetics soften the grain’s assertive spice, creating a whiskey that retains rye’s structure and depth but rounds it out with gentle sweetness, a silkier mouthfeel, and warm, honeyed grain notes. The result is a complex spirit that bridges the gap between rye’s boldness and bourbon’s approachability.
